Our Environment

Can you imagine a world without sunshine? There would be no sun-kissed wheat and no wholesome breakfasts, and great days would be few and far between. A healthy environment is essential to our well-being. It helps us be our best. And that’s why Kellogg promises to nurture the world we live in — just as it nurtures us.

We have been working for years to continually improve our environmental performance and conserve natural resources in the facilities where our foods are made. Specifically, we have been dedicated to reducing our energy use, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, water use and waste sent to landfill. We also work with our suppliers—whose collective impacts are greater than our own—to help them reduce their environmental footprints.

Our renewed commitment to sustainability is at the core of our values and will help us continue enriching the world through foods and brands that matter. With our new 2020 commitments, we’ll support the livelihoods of individuals, families and communities that rely on us and on whom we depend. We’ll go further to conserve natural resources where we source and produce our foods. We will use the stories generated from these efforts to connect with our consumers.

  • Zero Waste to Landfill We’re constantly working to improve our environmental performance and conserve natural resources in the facilities where our foods are made. In fact, our Belleville, ON plant recently achieved its Zero Waste to Landfill goal.
  • Science-Based Climate Goals Climate change is a core business issue for Kellogg, as we seek to ensure the long-term health and viability of the ingredients we use in the foods people love and trust.
  • Sustainable Packaging The very first box W.K. Kellogg filled more than 100 years ago was made entirely of recycled material. Today, almost all our cereal boxes are made from 100 per cent recycled cartonboard, so we’re making a smaller environmental impact.
  • Optimizing Transport Efficiency In addition to our facility-based efforts, we continually work to improve the energy efficiency of methods for transporting supplies to our facilities and our foods to market.
  • Conserving Natural Resources We are dedicated to reducing our energy use, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, water use and waste sent to landfill.
  • Ingredients and Materials As part of our new Sustainability Commitments, we will responsibly source-by 2020-our global priority ingredients, including corn, wheat, rice, potatoes, fruits, sugar beets, sugar cane, cocoa, palm oil, and vanilla.
  • Ethical Supply Chain We seek to do business only with suppliers who obey the law and operate fairly and ethically. We hold all of our suppliers to the same high standards of integrity to which we hold ourselves.
  • Sustainable Agriculture Our grower engagement programs around the world demonstrate our commitment to lead the way in promoting sustainable agriculture for grains.
